I hate to bring up a bad memory, but these are the shirts that I made for Gideon and Silas before the BYU-U of U game.

We stopped at Costco right before the game so we got some laughs and funny comments.

Summer Fun

We've had a lot of fun so far this summer going camping, visiting the church history museum, playing at the park, walking around temple square, having picnics, and enjoying the Gallivan Center festivities.  And here's the best part--there's been an Asian with us to document it all.  My neighbor Vicki takes tons of pictures everywhere we go, so I don't even have to worry about all of the pictures I'm forgetting to take.  Here's a sampling, but I'm hoping to have a new slide show soon.

Potty Training at Its Finest

A couple of weeks ago Gideon was playing in the living room when he suddenly stopped, looked up at me, and asked, "Mom, am I wearing underwear or a diaper?"  "A diaper."  Then he began to grunt.  "Do you need to poop on the potty?" I asked.  "Nope, it's too late."  A few days later as Gideon was getting on the potty, he excitedly proclaimed, "MY BUM SMELLS LIKE CANDY!"

"Do You Have Any Brussel Sprouts?"

Last fast Sunday I asked Gideon what he wanted for lunch.  He thought for a minute and then said, "How about some broccoli soup?"

Ahh...That's Why I'm Short

We were having a conversation with Gideon about what he would do when he's grown up.  After a few minutes he said,  "I'm not grown up.  I'm small.  I'm grown down."

Gideon's Embarrassing Observations

Yesterday at church we sat down next to a Hispanic man who looked like he belonged in a Mariachi band.  Upon sitting down, Gideon pointed directly at him and loudly proclaimed "Look at that man!  He has a silly mustache!"  As my mind raced through what to say, all I could come up with was, "My son likes your mustache."  Then today as we were shopping, Gideon noticed a Costco employee with a hoop earring, and said "Look at that man!  He has an earring!" right when the said man was passing us in the aisle.  Fortunately, the employee thought Gideon was hilarious, so I didn't have to do anything more than nervously laugh and move on.  A few aisles later Gideon saw a man with a long, scraggly goatee and observed, "That man has something on his chin."  I'm starting to get nervous about going out in public.

Gideon's Timeline

April 11, 2011: Learns how to ride a bike with training wheels
2010, 2011: Speaks constantly and has a great vocabulary.  When asked "How are you?", Gideon responds with "I'm doing well."
October 2009: Knows many more words and now combines them into phrases and sentences such as "Bird over there," "Give me bite," and "What is that?"
September 13, 2009: Learns how to unplug the safety outlet covers and also learns how to climb onto the kitchen table
September 2009: Makes animal sounds
August 26, 2009: Current vocabulary consists of "mom," "dad," "ball," "down," "all done," "oh," "that," "this," "bird," and "no"
August 3, 2009: Learns how to give raspberries
June 26, 2009: Learns how to make choices by pointing at the thing that he wants
June 22, 2009: Makes a "leap of faith" (i.e. flings himself at me when I say "Walk to momma") and later takes several steps in a row
May 18, 2009: Top two teeth break through when Gideon falls in the tub
May 6, 2009: Poops on potty for the first time

Videos for Mom

The first video is a few weeks old. Now Silas can stand up 100% independently and he claps for himself. The second video was one of my many attempts to get him to do just that for the camera today. He really wants to grab the camera, so I'm having a hard time catching it on video.
