Raggedy Ann

I pulled Raggedy Ann and Andy out of the closet to let the boys play with them.  Gideon looked at Raggedy Ann and said, "Mom, she has hair, but she looks like something else.  She looks like a cheese stick."  When I started laughing, he had to clarify, "Because she's long.  See how she looks like a cheese stick?"  A little while later the boys were giggling because they disrobed poor Raggedy Ann and Andy...and I have to admit, they do kind of look like cheese sticks with hair.

Good Old Nursery Rhymes

In one of our nursery rhyme books, we have a nursery rhyme that I'd never heard of before.  It goes through a conversation between church bells and then at the end it says, "Here comes a lighter to light you to bed.  Here comes a chopper to chop off your head.  Chip, chop, chip, chop, the last man's head."  When I finished reading this nursery rhyme to the boys for the first time, I said something like "Ew.  That's disgusting!" and that's all it took for it to become an instant favorite with my man cubs.  Gideon has had the last part of that rhyme memorized for a long time, but it came as a surprise last week when Silas pointed at the light and said "light" and then said, "chip-chop, chip-chop, the last man's head."  What a lovely thing for an 18 month old to have memorized!

Gideon Quotes

I'm trying to be better about writing down Gideon's quotes, so here is a random sampling.

As Gideon was climbing onto my exercise bike, he turned to me and said in a very serious voice, "Mom, I'm leaving again.  I'm going to Mexico."  "What are you going to do in Mexico?" I asked.  "Eat."

Gideon tattling on Silas: "Sai's just requested to take my toys away."  Gideon went through a phase where he was throwing the word "requested" into everything.

While playing with a stuffed animal: "This is my pet baby.  She's very useful and I love to hold her."  This was a more recent phase of using the word "useful" a lot.

Out of the blue: "Ya, I should find a wife soon."

Last night: "When I go to sleep tonight, I'm going to have lots and lots of dreams.  Two hundred pounds of dreams!"
