It's His Party, He Can Cry If He Wants To

This is what happens when you try to give your baby a lit cupcake with one hand and film it with the other hand.  You end up with a very shaky video and a baby that is now scared of cupcakes.
"Happy" first birthday Ambrose!

The Good, the Bad, and the Ugly of 2013

Since this blog also functions as my journal, I thought I should do a quick review of 2013.

THE GOOD

Ambrose was born on January 7th.

Just as Peter began looking for a new job last spring, he received an email from the director of engineering at Sylarus Technologies.  He applied for the job, interviewed, and got it.
In June, we moved from Las Vegas...

...to St. George where we bought our first house.  We signed for the house on August 6th and moved in on August 10th.

Gideon started kindergarten.

THE BAD

In the middle of trying to buy our house, I did this to the van.

Peter also traveled to Denver once and to British Columbia twice while we were in the home-buying process.  A couple of months later Peter went to England.

I don't know whether it's the move to a new place or it's the oldest child going to kindergarten or it's having a baby sucking on everything, but our family has been plagued with every disease St. George has to offer this fall and winter.

THE UGLY

On New Year's Eve, I decided to get my long awaited haircut.  I chopped off about twelve inches of hair and gave it to Locks of Love.  Here's the before picture.
There is no after picture because I got the worst haircut of my life--and that includes the time when I tried to cut my own hair and the time in the sixth grade when Riki cut my hair.  I wish now that I had taken an after picture because it's hard to describe exactly how horrible it was.  Plus, you would have all gotten a good laugh over it.  But anyway, no picture.  Peter had to give me a haircut an hour after I got home from the salon in order to prevent me from going to a different salon and getting a pixie cut.

So, despite a little bad and a lot of ugly, 2013 was a very good (and very busy) year.  Peter likes working at Sylarus and we're loving St. George!  We're thankful to have so many blessings.

Christmas 2013

I got the camera out on Christmas intending to actually use it, but in the end I only got this picture of Silas and a little video of Ambrose.  Ambrose started taking a bunch of steps last week and could totally walk if he wanted to, but he's a chicken.

Winter Wonderland

We woke up to this this morning.  It may never happen again, so I took pictures.

My flower pots were still in full bloom.

Yet Another Proud Parenting Moment

At dinner tonight we asked Gideon what he wanted on his hot dog.  He scanned our extensive collection of condiments and requested sriracha, jalapenos...and...ketchup.

New Candle Scent?

You know how your house stinks if you don't do the dishes for a couple (or several) days?  No?  Well, I do.  Anyway, when Peter was in England, our house began to smell like that and every time I left the house and came back my nose was offended.  One day, however, I had made grilled cheese sandwiches for lunch and then went to drop Gideon off for kindergarten.  When I came back, the house smelled nice.  Silas noticed this too and said, "Those grilled cheese sandwiches are like air fresheners!"

Breakfast Conversation

One day at breakfast, Silas said (in a teasing voice), "Gideon, you're pretty."  Gideon responded with, "People always tell me that I have pretty eyes."  I made a comment and then Gideon continued his thought with, "but both of my eyes are boys and they are so embarrassed when people say they're pretty."

Tuesday, October 1, 2013

When one of the boys is about to do something that they know they shouldn't do, I very often say, "Don't even dream of it!"  This morning Gideon was in a particularly feisty mood and responded with, "I'm going to dream of everything you don't want me to dream of!"

Underw-air

This happened a couple of weeks ago, but I just found the napkin I'd written it down on.  One night as Peter was putting Silas to bed, Silas said, "Dad, I need to tell you something."

Peter: "What Silas?"

Silas: "Dad, I think I might be wearing air instead of underwear."

Peter: (Not sure he heard correctly) "What?"

Silas: "After I went to the bathroom earlier, I couldn't find my underwear.  Then I saw some air and I kind of thought it looked like my underwear, so I put it on."

Peter: "So, you're not wearing any underwear?"

Silas: "I think I'm wearing underwear...(pause)"

Peter: "Silas?"

Silas: "Actually, I'm not wearing any underwear."
