The Golden Dragon
On Friday night we went out to eat at a Chinese restaurant near our house. The first thing Gideon did was to point to the Buddha statue and scream, "Shrek!" After that his attention was arrested by a dirty tank filled with crabs. "Yucky, yucky gross fish!" "Yucky, yucky, ew." Gideon was shrieking this so loud and for so long (despite our best efforts) that everyone around us was smirking or laughing and a man at a nearby table said, "That's really bothering him, isn't it?" Ahhh... the beginning of parental embarrassments.

Gideon's Justification
When Gideon hit me on the face this morning, I yelled "Gideon!" in a surprised and angry way. Gideon took on an explanatory, isn't-it-obvious tone and said, "I'm being mean."

Today's Gideon Quotes
This morning I was trying to clean out Gideon's nose when he very politely said, "All done please." Later in the day Gideon was whining and throwing a semi-tantrum about me going to the bathroom. When I got out of the bathroom I said in exasperation, "Gideon, what are you doing!?!" He immediately stopped crying and replied, "I'm being a wah baby!"

Gideon's Favorite Things
I think of this blog as Gideon's baby book so I will warn you that this is going to be a boring post about Gideon's current hobbies and favorite things.
Gideon loves boots and hats (a boy after my own heart!). He is forever bringing me his irrigating boots and having me put them on. Gideon is very creative with his definition of "hat." Today he told me "hat" and then proceeded to put a large laundry basket over his head. At dinner time, he grabbed the vegetable steamer insert to my rice cooker and wore it as a hat. He has also used garbage cans, my bras, pajama pants, and a variety of other items as "hats."
Gideon enjoys coloring with markers and is not limited by paper constraints (hence the nakedness and the orange teeth). His favorite hobby, though, is going on bike rides with Peter.
Gideon used to wake up in the morning and say "bottle." Now he wakes up in the morning and says "bike."

A Blog about a Blog
I was just reading Robyn's potty humor blog and getting a good chuckle out of it when Peter looked up from doing his homework and said, "Let me guess. One of your sisters' blogs and poop." Then I had to really laugh that he just assumed I must be laughing at poop...which I was. Is there a gene for potty humor, mom?

Potty Training Woes and My Crappy (NON-CRAPPY) Morning
Yesterday I missed the perfect potty training opportunity. Gideon led me to the bathroom and obviously wanted me to open the door and let him in. I, however, assumed that he didn't actually need to use the potty and really just wanted to play in the bathroom. Not two minutes later, he pooped! I missed it! Grrrrrr!
Now, fast forward to this morning. Gideon grunts and does the typical pooping stuff. "Gideon, do you need to go poop on the potty?" "Ya." I run to the bathroom, strip down his pants and diaper, and then set him on the potty. Nothing happens. I read Gideon books. I let him play with his father's deoderant (lid on of course). I let him play with my necklace, which he is dangling in the little crack between the toilet insert and the regular toilet seat. YUCK!!! At last I give up and put his diaper back on.
Repeat the last paragraph another three or four times and you have my morning. If I spend another minute in the bathroom, I think I am going to cry! I told Peter that mommies need potty training treats more than babies do. He agreed. If I can get Gideon to go on the potty three times in a row, then we are going out to eat...but I don't think that it is ever going to happen!

Silly Fun
I was trying to get Gideon to say some of his new words, but he was having too much fun being silly and dodging the camera!
