Our House & Silas' Thoughts on Our House

This is what our couch looks like and you can even see a piece of our super zany rug.

Gideon's Latest Quotes

Gideon was really sick a couple of weeks ago.  I handed him a cookie, which he bit and then handed back to me.  In a mournful voice he proclaimed, "I'm so sick; I don't know how to eat cookies."

Peter read the boys a book that was written in England.  He explained to Gideon that English people sometimes use different words than we use in the United States.  After pointing out a few examples, Gideon was apparently inspired. "Well, you're really a father.  Fathers are great big daddies, you know that?"

I was peeling an onion for dinner, when Gideon asked, "Mom, do those have layers AND ogres have layers?"

Good First & Last Impressions

I thought I heard Peter's beard trimmer humming quietly as I sat in the living room chair (talking to Peter), but then I second-guessed myself.  A minute later, Gideon appeared, proudly proclaiming that he had cut his own hair.
So this is Gideon's hairdo for the last Sunday in this ward and for the first Sunday in the next ward.

Raggedy Ann

I pulled Raggedy Ann and Andy out of the closet to let the boys play with them.  Gideon looked at Raggedy Ann and said, "Mom, she has hair, but she looks like something else.  She looks like a cheese stick."  When I started laughing, he had to clarify, "Because she's long.  See how she looks like a cheese stick?"  A little while later the boys were giggling because they disrobed poor Raggedy Ann and Andy...and I have to admit, they do kind of look like cheese sticks with hair.

Good Old Nursery Rhymes

In one of our nursery rhyme books, we have a nursery rhyme that I'd never heard of before.  It goes through a conversation between church bells and then at the end it says, "Here comes a lighter to light you to bed.  Here comes a chopper to chop off your head.  Chip, chop, chip, chop, the last man's head."  When I finished reading this nursery rhyme to the boys for the first time, I said something like "Ew.  That's disgusting!" and that's all it took for it to become an instant favorite with my man cubs.  Gideon has had the last part of that rhyme memorized for a long time, but it came as a surprise last week when Silas pointed at the light and said "light" and then said, "chip-chop, chip-chop, the last man's head."  What a lovely thing for an 18 month old to have memorized!

Here is Gideon reciting both that rhyme and "Fe-Fi, Fo-Fum" (another favorite).

Here is Silas.  I couldn't decide which video was cuter, so I put them both up.

Gideon Quotes

I'm trying to be better about writing down Gideon's quotes, so here is a random sampling.

As Gideon was climbing onto my exercise bike, he turned to me and said in a very serious voice, "Mom, I'm leaving again.  I'm going to Mexico."  "What are you going to do in Mexico?" I asked.  "Eat."

Gideon tattling on Silas: "Sai's just requested to take my toys away."  Gideon went through a phase where he was throwing the word "requested" into everything.

While playing with a stuffed animal: "This is my pet baby.  She's very useful and I love to hold her."  This was a more recent phase of using the word "useful" a lot.

Out of the blue: "Ya, I should find a wife soon."

Last night: "When I go to sleep tonight, I'm going to have lots and lots of dreams.  Two hundred pounds of dreams!"

"Bring Me the Black Mamba!"

Not everyone has a son with an uncanny resemblance to Megamind...
Super Gid was more than a little jealous of the stir that Silas created at the Trunk or Treat.  He kept trying to get people to admire his costume, too.

Pottying and Praying

Gideon was in the bathroom with the door shut--ostensibly using the bathroom--but I could hear a constant stream of talking, so I decided to go investigate.  I asked Gideon if he was done going potty.  He informed me that he was praying to Heavenly Father because his leg hurt and that he was not done using the bathroom.  So I shut the door and left him to his pottying and praying.  As I was walking down the hall I heard Gideon say, "Heavenly Father?  Heavenly Father?  Heavenly Father?" pausing for a response each time.  He must have gotten it because then he said, "Can you give me a new leg?"

BYU-U of U Game

I hate to bring up a bad memory, but these are the shirts that I made for Gideon and Silas before the BYU-U of U game.

We stopped at Costco right before the game so we got some laughs and funny comments.
