Gideon's Tempting and Silas' Teasing

Gideon has developed a new method of persuasion. When it becomes obvious that asking me outright isn't going to work, he tries something a little more subtle. Example: "Mom, can I watch a movie?" "No." "Mom, can I watch a movie?" "No." "Mom, can I watch a movie?" "The answer is still no." "Do you need to check your email, mom?" I guess he figures that if he can get me over to the computer, maybe he can get me to take the next step and turn on a movie for him. That hasn't worked, but a few nights ago he employed the same strategy with great success. "Do you want to go in the tent with me mom?" "No, I'm too tired." "Do you want to go in the tent with me mom?" "No, I'm too lazy and too tired." Gideon continued playing and reappeared a few minutes later with a pillow from his bed. "Do you want to lay on this pillow on the floor, mom?" "Okay." As soon as I laid my head on the pillow, Gideon ripped it out from under me and moved it a few feet away into his tent. "Do you want to lay on the pillow in here, mom?" And now on to Silas... Silas discovered a very fun game. I was trying to take a package of fruit snacks away from him and he would pretend that he was going to give them to me and then right as I was about to take them, he'd pull them away and shake his head. I thought it was so cute that I had to get a video of it. Sorry the video is a bit shaky.

I hate to follow up my last post by an equally gross one, but let's face it, two-year-olds are gross. A few nights ago when I was putting Gideon to bed he held up his finger to show me something that looked suspiciously like a booger. "What is that?" I asked, already knowing the answer. Gideon surprised me by responding, "A green olive!" Don't worry, this movie has nothing to do with green olives.

We Eat Poop for Dinner

As I was changing Gideon's diaper, we had the following conversation. "Eww. You stink." "Yummy. We eat poop!" "Yucky! That's gross, Gideon!" "We do. We eat poop for dinner." A few seconds later, "Can we eat pee?" "No." "Can we eat gas?" "No." "Can we eat Mommy?" I am offended by two things: 1) his comments about my cooking, and 2) the progression from poop to pee to gas to mommy.

Eyebrow Cold and Random Gideonisms

First of all, Gideon's eyebrows really were sick...or at least his sinuses were, which is close enough. He's been on antibiotics and is doing much better. Now for some randomness. I've probably told most of you about our maintenance man. He has a long beard and long hair, wears a bandana, and has earings. He looks like a pirate. And Gideon is forever pointing out that he looks like a pirate. When Gideon shrieks, "Look mom, a pirate man!" I usually tell him quietly and urgently, "That's not a pirate. It's our maintenance man." Well, yesterday morning I put on a bandana to cover up my ugly hair. Gideon looked at me excitedly and asked, "You a pirate, mom?" I responded in the affirmative. Then Gideon said, "You're not a pirate! You're a maintenance man!" Next random bit... Gideon knows that he weighs 28 lbs. He likes stepping on the bathroom scale, looking at the error message because he didn't wait for it to calibrate, and then proclaiming, "28 pounds!" He also pulls out the measuring tape and says, "28 pounds!" I'm not sure how he figured out which things are measurement scales, but he's convinced that all measurement scales equal 28 pounds. When the nurse at the doctor's office asked him how old he was, he responded, "28 pounds!" This morning he was watching Sesame Street and I leaned over the computer to see if it was almost done. "How much is left?" I asked aloud. "28 pounds." I wonder what 28 pounds of Sesame Street looks like...

Eyebrow Colds

After wiping many a green runny nose this morning, I asked Gideon if he was sick. He said "no" but then thought for a moment. "Yes. I'm really sick." I asked, "Where are you sick?" "My eyebrows," he said, pointing for emphasis, "My eyebrows are sick."

Sometimes Silas has to have a little warm-up before he can get "mama" out.

My Nerdy Children

Yes, Gideon was also a nerd last year...but isn't it so much cuter now that I have matching nerds?

Priestcraft Continued

Yesterday I went to Young Women in Excellence and when I got home, Silas was in a cardboard box on the coffee table.

Peter had the following exchange with Gideon just before I came home.

Peter: "Don't push on Silas' head." (Gideon was trying to shove Silas' head all the way into the box.)

Gideon: "No, I was giving a blessing."

After that Gideon went over to Silas and said, "Bless him. Bless him. Bless him. Amen." The picture below was Gideon's re-enactment while Peter was telling me the story.
